My role: modeling, re-topology, UV generation, texturing and projection mapping R&D
W+K Lodge was working on a technically challenging project to projection map graphics on to a shoe while tracking its movement in 3D space. The wearer would place their foot in a circle and the tech would be able to track the shoe anywhere within that circle and accurately projection map graphics on to the shoe, enabling the wearer to effectively design their shoe in real time. W+K Lodge came to me looking for help with how to solve the accuracy of how the graphics track on to a shoe of which there would be many sizes, models and other variables. This turned into a long R&D cycle of 3D scanning many shoes, retopologizing the mesh for UV generation, texturing and deformation and then a lot of experimentation with the 3D model to get the track right. Eventually we achieved accuracy and I helped establish a workflow to produce all the 3D models needed to make the event possible.
